Holiday Accommodation and Adventures in Tuscany

Happy Befana!

As in many countries today, Italy is celebrating the 12 day after Christmas, l’Epifania,¬†which is when the Old Woman, or, The Witch, is the one out and about delivering presents on the night of 5th for you to open on 6th.

Have you been good? (so many halos I can see!!)

In that case she will fill your stocking with sweeties and wonderful things.

Been naughty by any chance? (no didn’t think so!)

You’ll find a lump of coal in your stocking for sure.

You’d be best advised to leave a plate of something tasty for the Befana and a glass of Barolo if you don’t want coal!!

La Befana vien di notte

Con le scarpe tutte rotte

Col cappello alla romana

Viva, Viva La Befana!

The English translation

La Befana she comes at night

With her shoes all tattered and torn

She wears a witches hat

Long live La Befana!

Maybe only half a glass……
